The City of New Roads will once again host “A New Roads Christmas” this Saturday (Dec. 2), featuring holiday shopping, special food offerings, carnival rides, a downtown parade and tree lighting ceremony.
“This event is always a special time for local residents and visitors to enjoy a fun day of shopping at the many specialty shops and unique vendor displays,” said Mayor Anthony Daisy. “And as always, we will have photos with Santa, amusements and carnival rides for the children, our family-friendly parade and tree-lighting ceremony. The day promises to be a fun holiday outing for everyone.”
Local downtown shops and boutiques will feature holiday specials from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Artisan and craftsmen booths will be located in the City Hall parking lot, and will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Many of the area’s local artists and craftsmen will feature their one-of-a-kind items.
At the same time, local restaurants will be open for lunch and dinner, and food vendors will be on site in the City Hall parking lot all day.
Children can enjoy carnival rides on Friday evening and all day Saturday in the Town Square, located across the street from the City Hall. Wrist bands for each carnival session cost $15. Those session times include Friday, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Photos with Santa are also available outside City Hall on Saturday, from noon to 5 p.m., for a cost of $5 per photo.
Mayor Daisy said the Christmas Parade, which will roll down Main Street through historic New Roads, begins at 5:30 p.m. The city’s Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the City Hall parking lot, immediately following the parade. City officials, youth groups and community carolers will participate in this year’s festivities.
“This event is the perfect way to kick-off the holiday season. The focus of our celebration is family and community, and sharing those things that make New Roads so special,” Daisy said.
