Mayor Cornell Dukes announced the rescheduled date for the “Get in the Game” Census and Voter Registration Pandemic Drive. This is an all hands on deck effort to increase census response rate and voter registration. The event will be held at City Hall, 211 West Main Street, Wednesday, September 16, 2020 from 10 am to 2 pm.
Wi-Fi will be available. Participants may either use their own devices or use Chrome-books to complete the census questionnaire. Hand washing stations will be accessible in front of City Hall. Volunteers and attendants will practice social distancing safety measures and face masks will be required. Assistance will be available for individuals who need additional support completing their census and registering to vote.
There will be 3000 gallons of FREE milk and boxes of food to give away as well as grab and go meals of delicious jambalaya. This is a free public event.
Due to COVID-19, the Census Bureau has extended its self-response timeline until September 30, 2020. The 2020 Census can be completed in one of three ways: by mail, over the phone, or online. More information can be found at 2020census.gov.
